I took a part on workshop about Interactive design last summer. That was very interesting experience.
Yet anOther Summer Workshop @ Strelka Moscow. On connecting virtual realm with physical spaces.

Everything started from computers, maps, twitter... but about this next time. But after on our tabels came cables, arduino, sensors and... a lot of other things. And first of all needed to blow up our minds. My group from 2 of us had RFID sensor. And becouse of new experience, unusual way of doing things we LIVED in our class on STRELKA University of Architecture, Media and Design in Moscow. And during the night we gone to check our idea connected with chairs. We wanted to see what people will make with them and in the end of our hour and half trip we had some results which you can see here (no music on, sorry, but I ll update it later WITH music):
From here our project started!
The first idea were to make an arean and under each square put the card. Each card will play something. And if person will want to set down on an empty chair for the rest or just becouse of interesting what is it, will plays some music depend on place of chair on area.
BUT! We couldn't fine any cards for our RFID in Moscow... soo... Idea was changed.
This is already prototype of idea (in some reasons file didn't came in good format, but still you can see an idea):
This is just one of ideas. Next one were touristic chair. The idea was to put some points into the plays and when the person drive and stop on that point plays some text about historical part of Moscow which he see.
What was happened next? Prepear the chair.
But on that time by going home I saw something happening in Moscow already...
The most difficult part was to make sensor work in right way, but my knowledge was not enought for make everythig from idea to realisation for week and my cool brother (he is amazing programmer) helped me with technical part.
For our idea we use RFID sensor with Tags on Arduino platform with processing on also. For testing the process we have just one tag.
I will show 3 stage of sensor work.
1. First of all we have all the time switch on slowly sound becouse I wanted people to look on chairs while they are passing by them.
2. Second one point. That slowly music is playing all the time. And when Tag is touching sensor plays another one sound. In this situation with one tag in every touch plays random sounds from my list.
3. 3d part is: when Tag is touching sensor in any time sounds are overlaping on each other.
CHAIR WAS READY!
BUT! Unfortunatelly, in Moscow came crazy summer weather. All streets was full of smoke and empty from people, we couldn't breath normally. Project was ready but we didn't try it on real street with real people. I still have everything ready, so.... may be one day... -)
